For generations, rounded clay vessels known as Matkas were used in Indian homes and villages to carry and store water. Their porous earthen construction helped keep the contents naturally cool, while the broad body and narrow opening created a form that was both practical and beautifully balanced.

Reinterpreted within an interior, the same familiar shape has a strong sculptural quality, and the softly mottled clay surface, subtle firing marks and variations in tone bring depth and character.

Leave it unfilled as a sculptural object, or style it with a loose arrangement of generous branches, where the weight of the vessel balances the movement above.

Please note: Each vessel is individually made and variations in tone, shape, markings and surface texture are inherent to the piece. When styling with fresh stems, we recommend placing a watertight container inside the vessel.
