Why I Created The Quiet Edit

Why I Created The Quiet Edit - The Quiet Edit

I’ve always loved finding things. Literally always!

Whether I'm sourcing for an interiors project, looking for something for my own home or simply browsing, I'm constantly drawn to pieces that stand apart from everything else. I get huge enjoyment out of finding a real cracker of a piece and secretly challenge myself to find something that little bit more interesting every time.

Over the years, I've gathered pieces from all sorts of places. They've moved between homes, found themselves in different rooms and sat alongside all sorts of furniture and objects. Interestingly, they're often the very things I would choose again and again.

I think part of the enjoyment for me has always been the search itself. Finding something I haven't seen before, discovering a maker whose work I love, or coming across a piece that I know would be just right for someone's home.

I often find myself sending things to clients long after a project has finished and it's simply because I've come across something, immediately thought of them and where it would work in their home!

For someone not immersed in design every day, I think that while we have more access to beautiful interiors and inspiration than ever before, through Instagram, travel and everything else, I don't think that necessarily makes finding those individual pieces any easier.

People often know the kind of rooms they're drawn to, but knowing where to find the things that make those rooms interesting, or how to bring different pieces together, is another matter.

Along the way, I've built up quite a sourcebook of makers, artists, suppliers and places to look. I've always enjoyed sharing those discoveries and helping people find things they might never have come across themselves.

I suppose The Quiet Edit grew from wanting to do more of that — to make some of the knowledge, experience and sources I've gathered over the years available beyond my own interiors projects.

I wanted to create a collection where much of the searching and editing had already been done. Every piece is something I would happily use in my own home or source for a client. They're not necessarily connected by style or origin, but by the way I see them living together.

I really hope The Quiet Edit becomes somewhere people enjoy looking, even when they're not searching for anything in particular. Somewhere they might come across a piece they hadn't expected to find, or perhaps wouldn't even have thought to consider in the first place.
